Meet George W. Cooley, AIA

Born in 1946 in Alpine, Texas, I grew up in a west Texas construction family. My grandfather was a local general contractor and my father operated the local lumberyard. After graduating from Alpine High School in 1965, I attended Sul Ross State University for two years, majoring in advertising art. I then transferred to Texas Tech University and entered the School of Architecture, where I graduated in 1971. Upon graduation from Texas Tech, I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army and served in the Transportation Corps. After being honorably discharged at the conclusion of the Vietnam War, I worked for several architectural firms in Texas and received my license to practice architecture in 1975. I have maintained that license as well as my membership in the American Institute of Architects continuously since that time. I have also been a corporate member of the Construction Management Association of America since 1993.

In 1977, I joined the Vantage Companies in Dallas, Texas and began a rewarding career of managing the design and construction of a large portfolio of commercial and industrial projects. I was responsible for managing a variety of building types across a large geographic network of corporate divisions.

In 2001, I was given the opportunity to purchase Vantage Construction Management, Inc. I concluded that purchase in partnership with my long-time business associate Don C. Hodges. We renamed the company CYMCOR and commenced operations on January 1, 2002.
